The first recorded death
Mary Ward, a 42-year-old astronomer, was thrown from an experimental steam carriage near Parsonstown and crushed by its iron wheel. It was documented, and understood at the time.
Five stars. For whom?
Five-star ratings measure survival after the crash. They do not prevent the crash. A car can hold five stars and still kill a pedestrian, and none of that touches the rating.
