Roughly 2,693 kilowatt hours of kinetic energy, produced by one person simply walking around, and collected by nobody. Scale that across a building, a station, a road, and the figure stops being a curiosity.

The same is true of the heat coming off every motor in a factory and the sunlight landing on every south-facing surface that was designed only to be a wall.

Harvest where the motion already is

Footfall, vehicle load, machine vibration. The engineering question is not whether the energy exists, it is whether recovery pays for itself over the life of the surface.

Surfaces that do two jobs

A facade is already there. A road is already there. If it can also collect, the marginal cost is the only cost worth arguing about.

Storage decides everything

Harvested energy arrives in small, irregular amounts. Without storage matched to that profile it is a demonstration, not a supply.

Honest arithmetic

Some of this does not pay back and should be said so plainly. A recovery system that costs more carbon to build than it saves is theatre.
